Elon Musk of a neuroscience company called Neuralink has shown us the new easy-to-use design of the implantable device that will allow a person’s brain to connect with a computer through Artificial Intelligence. They’ve even shown us the robot that will put the device in a person’s head. The large coin-like device will enter a person’s skull, and will allow a person to control technology with their mind. This device can even help people with neurological conditions like paralysis, deafness, blindness, or depression take control of technology like phones or computers with their thoughts.
Musk said the device could be used to solve neurological disorders such as memory loss, brain damage, hearing loss and even paralysis. It is said that with this device, one can climb rocks without fear, play music on the head, see radar with better vision, cure blindness, paralysis, deafness and mental illness.
The current device, called version 0.9, is a small chip measuring 23 millimeters by 8 millimeters with 1024 tiny wires that will enter a person’s brain. The robot will place the device for a person’s head and it will take less than one hour, a person will come out of hospital the same day.
The device has been tested in pigs and the pigs that have the device are happy and it works well. They even implanted the device in two of the pigs’ brains to show that many of the devices could be implanted in one person’s head. They say the robot will be able to do the whole surgery and they even painted the robot white for cleanliness and light green for comfort.
Elon Musk and his team want to test the device for humans before the end of 2020. This thing we’ve been seeing in films has almost come to reality.
